Hello, hello, and welcome, welcome I am back from one of my most amusing weeks of my life! I spent 23 glorious days in the sunny paradise of Gran Canaria, preparing for the 2024 Olympics in Paris with a dose of laughter, elevation, and good friends. So buckle up, grab a laugh, and let’s dive into this fun-filled adventure.
First things first: Packing for the trip was an absolute riot! I mean, who needs just one pair of cycling shorts when you can pack ten? And sunscreen? More like, “sunfunscreen” – because who wants a tan line in Paris? My bike, let’s call it “Lapierre Die Bestie” (because she’s a beauty), was a whole other story. I swear she weighed more than my car and took up an entire room, but I couldn’t leave her behind!
Arriving at Gran Canaria airport with “Lapierre Die Bestie” and all my luggage in tow, I could already feel the sun on my face and the laughter in the air. My friends were there to greet me with a mix of “Oh my god, you brought that bike again?” and genuine excitement. The week was off to an excellent start!
Let’s talk about training: We climbed mountains, we swam laps in the crystal-clear ocean, and we ran through banana plantations – all while laughing at each other’s expense. But the most memorable moment? The 25,000m bike climb – or as I like to call it, “The Elevation Escapade!” It was a challenge, alright. My calves were screaming, and my lungs were having a party, but we took breaks for snacks (and more laughter) – because, you know, hydration is essential!
But wait, there’s more! The evenings were spent feasting on local delicacies, like papas arrugadas (wrinkly potatoes) and carne asada, while swapping triathlon war stories. And let me tell you, some of those tales would put a professional comedian to shame!
As the week came to an end, we all felt accomplished, stronger, and ready for Paris. But most importantly, we left Gran Canaria with memories that will have us laughing for years to come. So here’s to next year’s Olympics – may they be as hilarious and unforgettable as this week in Gran Canaria!
Stay tuned for more on my journey to Olympic glory (and more laughs, of course)! Until then, keep smiling, keep training, and remember: You’re not just preparing for an Olympics – you’re creating a lifetime of memories, YOURS LISA!
